The Klainguti Family: From the Swiss Engadin to the Bahamas
Villa Serenity isn't run by a hotel chain or a booking agency – it belongs to a family from the Engadin valley in Switzerland. We rent out our home on Cape Santa Maria personally, with the same care we put into enjoying it ourselves.
Our story
The Klainguti family has deep roots in the Engadin, where the historic Villa Klainguti stands – a house we've welcomed vacation guests to for many years. That's where we learned what hospitality means to us: respect for a special place and the joy of sharing it with others.
With Villa Serenity, we carried that idea across the Atlantic. Instead of snowy peaks you'll find palm trees and turquoise water, but the spirit is the same: a house with character that feels like home, and hosts you actually get to know.
Why Long Island?
We deliberately chose not to settle on one of the busier, better-known islands of the Bahamas. Long Island is quiet, unspoiled and far from mass tourism. There are no high-rises, no cruise ships and hardly any traffic – just some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, friendly locals and nature that's still untouched.
Cape Santa Maria won us over from the very first moment: the long white beach, the shallow, clear water of Galliot Cay bay and sunsets you won't forget. Find out how to get there yourself on our location and getting there page.
What matters to us as hosts
We want you to feel well looked after from the very first email. That's why we answer every inquiry personally, help with flights, rental cars and grocery service, and connect you with our on-island concierge for excursions, boat trips or a private chef.
Honest information matters to us: our rates and availability page spells out exactly what's included and what isn't, and you'll find every room and amenity on the villa page.
Personal, not anonymous
There's no call center and no automated replies. When you write to us, Riet Klainguti reads your message himself and answers personally – in English or German. We take the time to answer your questions: Which bedroom works best for the grandparents? Is a day in Nassau worth it? How much cash should you bring?
Because we know and use the house ourselves, we can tell you honestly what to expect. And because this is the only home we rent on Long Island, all our attention goes to you and your stay. Many answers are already collected in our FAQ.
Caring for the island
Long Island is a fragile ecosystem of mangroves, coral reefs and abundant birdlife. We ask our guests to leave nothing behind on the beach, never touch the coral and use water sparingly. We work with local partners, craftspeople and guides, and we recommend operators who treat the reef, the beach and the wildlife with respect. That way the island stays what it is – a quiet corner of the Bahamas that future guests will love just as much.

Our home in the Swiss Alps
If you love the mountains as much as the ocean, you're warmly invited to our historic family home in Switzerland as well. Learn more at www.villaklainguti.ch.
