Bahamas Trip Cost from Switzerland: Guideline Prices for Flights, Car, Food and Excursions
By the Klainguti family ·

The Bahamas have a reputation for being expensive, and that's partly true. We show you what to expect so your Long Island vacation stays easy to plan. All figures are guidelines, not commitments.
First: all figures are guidelines
We're the Klainguti family and we rent out Villa Serenity at Cape Santa Maria. The amounts below are rough guidelines from our own experience and conversations. Prices change with season, exchange rate and demand. Please check current offers before you book. The Bahamian dollar is pegged one to one to the US dollar, which keeps the math simple.

Flights from Switzerland
There's no direct flight from Switzerland to Long Island. The usual route runs through a European or US hub to Nassau, then on a small plane to Long Island.
- Long-haul flight Switzerland–Nassau (round trip, per person): Richtwert (planning range) approx. CHF 900–1,800, depending on season and lead time
- Domestic flight Nassau–Long Island (round trip, per person): Richtwert (planning range) approx. CHF 250–450
- Factor in checked baggage and connection times when planning
Booking early and traveling outside peak holidays often saves noticeably. Read more about getting there in the travel guide.
Rental car
On Long Island a rental car is practically essential, since public transport is almost nonexistent. Distances are long, and shops, restaurants and attractions are spread out.
- Rental car: Richtwert (planning range) approx. CHF 80–150 per day, depending on vehicle and season
- Fuel: expect higher prices than in Switzerland
- Reserve early in high season, supply is small
Traffic drives on the left. Drive carefully, especially at dusk.
Accommodation: villa on request
For Villa Serenity we deliberately don't quote a price here. It depends on travel dates, length of stay and group size. The price is on request. Write to us via the inquiry form and we'll get back to you personally. General info is under rates and on the villa page.
Groceries and restaurants
Much is imported, so groceries cost more than in Switzerland. With a villa you cook for yourself and save compared with eating out daily.
- Self-catering: Richtwert (planning range) approx. CHF 40–70 per person per day
- Restaurant meals: Richtwert (planning range) approx. CHF 25–60 per main course, drinks extra
- You can sometimes buy fresh fish directly from locals
We recommend picking up a share of the basic groceries on your first shop, since stores aren't well stocked everywhere. Ask us for tips before you travel.

Activities
Many of the best experiences on Long Island cost nothing: the beach, snorkeling off the villa, sunsets. Other activities cost extra.
- Guided cave tour, such as Hamilton's Cave: Richtwert (planning range) approx. CHF 20–50 per person
- Bonefishing with a guide: Richtwert (planning range) approx. CHF 400–700 per half day
- Boat tour or snorkeling trip: Richtwert (planning range) approx. CHF 80–200 per person
- Kayak or paddleboard rental: Richtwert (planning range) approx. CHF 20–60 per hour; confirm with the provider
You'll find an overview of options under things to do.
Sample calculation
A family of four staying one week should look at the items individually: long-haul flights for four people, domestic flights, a rental car for seven days, groceries, two or three paid excursions and the villa. Count flights and groceries per person, and the car per group. The villa stays on request.

Our advice
Plan a budget with a reserve. The Bahamas reward a relaxed attitude, and a small cushion makes many things easier. If you'd like to know what the villa costs for your dates, simply get in touch.
Compare complete quotes, not headline prices
For flights, compare the full price including bags and workable connections. Separate tickets may look cheaper, but a delay does not automatically come with the same protection as a through booking. A necessary overnight stay, transfers, and meals in transit belong in the budget as well. If your route passes through the United States, check entry requirements and any associated fees before booking.
Ask what the rental includes
Have the rental company confirm taxes, insurance, the deductible, additional drivers, and airport pickup. A low daily rate is not particularly useful if important items are missing. Ask about fuel policy and accepted payment methods too. The ranges above are planning guidelines, not an offer from a local rental company or a substitute for its written quote.
Separate personal and shared spending
Groceries make sense as a per-person allowance, while a shared car belongs in the group budget. For excursions, establish whether a quote covers a boat, a guide, or each guest. Child discounts are not automatic. Ask about minimum group sizes, cancellation terms, and what happens in bad weather before paying.
Our Swiss franc figures are for comparison only. Local bills may be in US or Bahamian dollars, while card providers apply their own conversion terms. Allow separately for possible card fees, taxes, and tips. The villa price remains on request, giving you a quote that matches your actual dates rather than an invented nightly rate.
